Meet Dexter

Welcome to my corner of the internet!

I’m Dexter Henry, a Brooklyn-born sports journalist, host, and play-by-play broadcaster with a deep-rooted passion for storytelling through sports.

My journey began in sixth grade at Phillipa Schuyler Middle School when I was named Brooklyn Borough Champion in the Citywide Storytelling Competition. That moment sparked a lifelong love for storytelling and set me on the path toward a career in sports media.

Today, I serve as an award-winning Sports Journalist and Anchor for New York Post, where I host multiple digital shows covering some of the most passionate fanbases and teams in New York sports.

I currently host several programs for New York Post Sports, including:

  • NY Got Game — a weekly show focused on the New York Knicks, diving into the biggest storylines surrounding the team and exploring basketball culture across New York City.

  • Straight Outta Flushing — a New York Mets show covering the latest developments, roster storylines, and conversations surrounding baseball in Queens.

  • Liberty Lately — focused on the New York Liberty and the continued growth and impact of women’s basketball in New York and across the WNBA.

  • Eye Of The Storm — a show dedicated to St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Basketball, offering insight into one of New York City’s most historic college programs.

In addition to my hosting work, I serve as a play-by-play broadcaster, calling games for Manhattan University and John Jay College, bringing energy, analysis, and storytelling to live broadcasts.

From 2022 to 2025, I also served as a Sports Update Anchor for WFAN and Infinity Sports Network, delivering national and local sports updates across two of the most recognizable platforms in sports radio.

In 2024, I expanded my hosting portfolio as the Lead Host of Urban Fitness Xtreme on Fox Sports, helping introduce audiences to the fast-growing world of professional calisthenics competition.

Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to take on a wide range of roles in sports media. I previously made history as the first Black male National Weather Reporter at the AccuWeather Network, and I received a Telly Award for my independent long-form sports documentary series Sideline Stories, which highlighted powerful and often overlooked stories within sports.

Beyond the headlines and highlights, my mission has always been to tell stories that matter. I’m deeply committed to amplifying the voices of underserved and underrepresented communities within sports journalism, and I take pride in mentoring young journalists of color as they pursue careers in media.

My career in sports journalism now spans more than 20 years, during which I’ve covered countless games, interviewed athletes and changemakers, and built platforms that bring meaningful sports storytelling to audiences.

That entrepreneurial spirit led me to launch Backpack Broadcasting in 2010, my own media outlet that helped open doors to opportunities with organizations including the New York Giants, Nets Daily, News 12 Networks, and more.

I’ve long been inspired by pioneers like Bryant Gumbel, Stuart Scott, and Gus Johnson - broadcasters who understood that sports are about more than just the final score. They’re about people, communities, and the stories that connect us.

That philosophy continues to guide my work today.

Thank you for visiting my site and joining me on this journey as I continue telling stories that live beyond the field, the court, and the scoreboard.
